01What is gum disease?
Tartar gets under the gum, bacteria inflame it and form a 'pocket', and the bone is slowly destroyed. At first gums just bleed; later teeth loosen, shift and can even fall out.
Warning signs
- Bleeding when brushing
- Red, swollen gums
- Bad breath
- Gaps widening, teeth looking longer
- Loose teeth
02Deep cleaning under the gum
Regular cleaning only reaches above the gum. Deep cleaning removes hidden tartar and inflamed tissue below the gum and smooths the root so the gum can reattach.
※ For a few days afterwards teeth may be sensitive and gums may shrink slightly as the inflammation settles.
03Long-term gum care
Maintenance matters most
- Come back every 3–6 months for a check and clean
- Brush properly and use floss or interdental brushes
- Smoking makes gum disease worse — we recommend quitting
- If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar well controlled
