Orthodontics: straightening your teeth

Straighter teeth can also be easier to keep clean.

01Two ways to straighten teeth

BracesA wire moves teeth graduallyClear alignersChange clear trays regularly

Both methods are used to straighten teeth. Which suits you depends on your teeth and lifestyle — you decide together with the orthodontist.

02Clear aligners

Clear trays are changed every 1–2 weeks to move teeth little by little. The trays are clear and removable for eating and brushing — worn about 20–22 hours a day.

※ The exact plan is decided by your dentist after the exam.

03Braces

Small brackets are bonded to the teeth and a wire moves them slowly. 'Self-ligating' brackets need no elastic ties.

04Early treatment for children

While the jaws are still growing, problems like underbite or narrow arches can be treated early.

05Retainers

After treatment, teeth tend to drift back, so a retainer is essential.

  • Avoid very hard or sticky food
  • Wear aligners 20–22 hours a day
  • Contact us if a bracket comes off or a wire pokes
